The world is changing faster than ever, and I’m proud to be a part of it. I’ve seen this change firsthand: from my first XT-type computer, which I used to create lab diagrams, to my current Intel Core i7 8th Gen, which I use to create videos and websites like this. Technology has shaped how I work, learn, and grow. But the real key to success isn’t just knowing how to use the tools—it’s about developing the right mindset.
Cultivating a digital mindset means embracing adaptability, using data to make smarter decisions, collaborating in digital environments, and staying curious through continuous learning. It’s not about being a tech expert—it’s about how you think, act, and grow in a digital-first world.
My Story of Cultivating a Digital Mindset
From Young Engineer to Top Leader
The modern job market is evolving at a breakneck pace. Skills that were valuable five years ago are becoming obsolete, and entire industries are being reshaped by technology. In this environment, how do you not just survive, but thrive? The answer isn’t about learning every new piece of software. It’s about cultivating a digital mindset.
Adopting this way of thinking fundamentally changed my career. It allowed me to grow rapidly and, ultimately, secure one of the 300 top leadership positions in a company of 45,000 employees (Luz y Fuerza del Centro). I was also among the five youngest people at that level, a tier typically reserved for engineers with far more seniority.
A digital mindset isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a practical approach that delivers real results. Here’s how it transformed my work and how it can future-proof your career.

From Repetition to Innovation
Early in my career, I saw colleagues stuck in a loop, performing the same repetitive manual tasks every single day. Their process was slow and prone to errors. A digital mindset teaches you to see these challenges not as chores, but as opportunities for innovation.
Instead of accepting the status quo, I built basic programs and databases to automate and streamline our work. Two examples stand out:
→ I created a Visual Basic program to process over 200 complex electricity contracts, reducing hours of manual work to just minutes.
→ I developed a dynamic Excel database that helped increase the productivity of 60 workers by an incredible 300%, minimizing mistakes and freeing up their time for more valuable tasks.
This wasn’t about being a coding genius; it was about using readily available tools to solve problems creatively.

Navigating High-Stakes Environments
This mindset became a source of confidence, especially as my responsibilities grew. I was tasked with managing a department that provided services to the entirety of Mexico City. This role involved constant change and communication with a wide array of powerful stakeholders, including major industries, government entities, and on some occasions, even fielding calls from the president’s office.
How do you stay confident in those situations? By being prepared. Cultivating a digital mindset meant using technology to have all the critical information—performance data, operational stats, and project updates—available at my fingertips. This preparation gave me the confidence to stand and speak with authority to very important people, backed not by opinion, but by data.

The Ultimate Test
Eventually, an offer came to lead an entire department. The scale was immense. It involved managing:
→ 5 separate workplaces
→ 350 employees
→ A fleet of 60 vehicles
→ Complex inventories of materials and equipment
→ Budgets, KPIs, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance
The most critical part, however, was managing the flow of information. I had to maintain clear and constant communication with key stakeholders: major clients, company directors, government bodies at the local, provincial, and federal levels, and other organizations. The principles of a digital mindset—leveraging technology for collaboration, data visualization, and seamless communication—were the only way to successfully manage such a complex, connected ecosystem.

My Advice
Transforming your career with a digital mindset doesn’t require a giant leap. It starts with small, consistent steps.
My advice is to start small.
→ Learn one new digital tool this month.
→ Follow industry trends by reading articles or listening to a podcast on your commute.
→ Experiment with making one data-driven decision this week instead of relying only on intuition.
Most importantly, stay curious. Every small step you take builds the resilience, adaptability, and confidence you need to not only navigate change but to lead it.
