My Project Coordinator Experience
I came across the Project Coordinator opening at Aecon and knew I had to apply. Being based right here in Hamilton and bringing a strong blend of electrical engineering expertise, utility background, and hands-on project tracking.
Job Description: Coordinator, Project

What I Bring To The Team
Here’s a quick breakdown of how my background matches Aecon´s needs:
→ Graduate from Electrical Engineering
My Qualification: I hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico (WES Credential Evaluation Report available). Additionally, I hold certifications in Project Management, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Advanced Manufacturing.
→ Minimum 3 years of experience in the construction industry in a similar role
My Qualification: I bring 5 years of hands-on experience in construction, electrical infrastructure, site supervision, and estimating. This includes 2 years working on the Metro Line 12 project in Mexico City, along with roles as Project Coordinator, Project Leader, and Electrical Supervisor.
→ Experience in the utility industry is a strong asset
My Qualification: I bring over 12 years of utility experience with Luz y Fuerza del Centro, serving in roles as Supervisor, Estimator, Superintendent, and Departmental Manager. Across these positions, I coordinated preventive and corrective maintenance, resolved power supply failures, and oversaw the installation of metering equipment for low- and medium-voltage customers in the 23 kV distribution network. Additionally, I supervised field teams to ensure the timely resolution of outages across low- and medium-voltage underground distribution networks.
→ Capable of reading and understanding construction drawings and documents
My Qualification: I have deep technical expertise analyzing blueprints, technical specifications, power distribution schematics, SCADA/signaling diagrams, and single-line drawings across my projects with Walbridge, CONIISA, and IICSE OP, Plus, I completed a blueprint reading course at Humber College to align with Canadian standards and practices.
→ Sound computer skills – MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project or equivalent
My Qualification: I have strong computer skills with MS Excel, Word, and Project, along with a solid background in data analysis and business intelligence. I regularly use data analysis to track project metrics, maintain clear documentation, and keep workflows running smoothly.
→ Experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation is an asset
My Qualification: I have a strong technical foundation interpreting layout drawing, CAD-based engineering documentation, and single-line schematics for complex low-, medium-, and high-voltage installations.
→ Strong communication skills – oral and written
My Qualification: Clear oral and written communication has been central to my work in estimation, project leadership, and field supervision. While preparing unit-price estimates and tender proposals, I translated complex technical drawings and specifications into clear, accurate documentation for stakeholders and clients. As a project leader, I served as the primary liaison between engineering teams, client representatives, and subcontractors—regularly presenting data-driven status reports and conducting daily safety and operational briefings with on-site crews to keep everyone aligned on goals, schedules, and quality standards.
→ Self-motivated with good organizational skills
My Qualification: Being self-motivated and highly organized allows me to keep complex construction and utility projects running smoothly. When preparing estimations and bids, I systematically organize technical drawings, material lists, and subcontractor quotes to build accurate budgets under tight turnaround times. Out in the field, I proactively coordinate resources, schedule site activities, and track daily progress logs across multi-disciplinary crews, ensuring roadblocks are caught early and projects stay on schedule.
→ Ability to work accurately under pressure
My Qualification: I thrive in fast-paced environments where precision is critical. While preparing multi-site estimations, I accurately managed complex cost spreadsheets and technical specification reviews under demanding time constraints. As a project leader, I kept crews focused and organized under pressure, making swift, accurate technical decisions during live distribution outages and tight night-shift maintenance windows to keep operations safe and on schedule.
→ Strong attention to detail
My Qualification: My strong attention to detail is foundational to how I prepare estimations and manage site operations. When estimating, I carefully audit single-line diagrams, engineering blueprints, and material quantities to build precise unit-price bids without missing hidden scope items. Leading projects and crews, I inspect electrical installations and testing logs against strict governing codes and safety standards, catching minor technical discrepancies early—such as during Metro Line 12 testing—to prevent costly rework or safety risks.
→ Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines
My Qualification: I bring hands-on experience in shift work, site supervision, and flexible scheduling. I worked weekends at the utility company to accommodate client schedules and keep projects moving. I conducted critical system testing at night while the metro was out of service to avoid disruption to daily operations. I am always ready to adapt field schedules to meet key project milestones.
→ Ability to work with others as a team
My Qualification: I take a team-first approach to project management and site execution. During the estimating phase, I collaborated across departments to gather accurate technical data and resolve pricing discrepancies before submitting final proposals. In project leadership roles, I built strong relationships with my crews, project owners, and external contractors—working together through high-pressure situations, such as night-shift testing and outage resolutions, to deliver quality results as a unified team.
→ Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
My Qualification: I possess a valid driver’s license and have excellent access to reliable transportation. I live on Sherman Ave S in downtown Hamilton—right on the street corner of a future LRT station—and have easy access to GO Transit (bus and train) as well as main local routes.
